View over to the Palmtree Sawmill housing from Muller's property

The Munro Tramway Historical Group was formed in 2015 to research the history of the Munro Tramway, the Munro timber merchant family, and the families of the Palmtree, Perseverance and Ravensbourne districts that were closely associated with the local timber harvesting and farming activities from the 1870's. The Group plans to make the information more accessible to current local residents and visitors.

Members of the Group are interested in the 16 mile (26 km) route of the tramway, in timber-getting and family history and the remains of the Class A Shay steam locomotives that were used to haul logs and milled timber for over 30 years from 1905.

As of early 2016, the Group is rapidly building photographic and documented information about the timber industry and the families, locating the route of the tramway from Hampton to Palmtree and on to Bunkers Hill, and locating artefacts. The information will be shared via this website, meetings and excursions. You are very welcome to join us.
