Welcome to the Munro Tramway website. The information contained on this website relates to a timber haulage tramway system and associated sawmill constructed and operated by the A&D Munro company in the Ravensbourne district of South East Queensland. The tramway served A&D Munro’s Palmtree sawmill, which was located on the headwaters of Perseverance Creek, both as a means of transporting logs into the mill and milled timber to the Government line at Hampton. The operational life of the tramway and mill spanned the period from the late 1890’s to 1936 and at the height of operations the tramway extended from Hampton to Bunkers Hill, a route length of approximately 26km. The maps below show the general location of this tramway.
In addition to recording details related to the tramway, locomotives and sawmill, this site also contains details related to the local history of the districts traversed by the tramway and the families associated with the mill operation. We hope you find this information interesting.
